How many reels a month does a brand need (and how many are waste)

Four, eight or twelve reels a month: which frequency fits your business stage, and at what point posting more stops helping.

A brand that is just starting needs four reels a month, one per week, so the algorithm and the audience register it as active. A brand that already sells through social media performs better with eight, two per week. Twelve or more only make sense when there is a team reading the data every week and adjusting; without that, reel number nine onward is waste.

The right number does not depend on budget. It depends on how many reels your business can sustain at the same quality for six straight months.

Why consistency beats volume

Instagram's and TikTok's algorithms do not reward those who post a lot; they reward those who post predictably and retain attention. An account that uploads twelve reels in September and two in October sends the platform a confusing signal. An account that uploads four every month for a year builds a history the platform learns to distribute.

The audience side works the same way. People do not follow accounts for quantity; they follow because they know what to expect. If your Tuesday reel is the one that explains something useful, on Tuesday they will look for it.

Four reels: the starting stage

One reel per week is enough for a brand still defining its voice. It lets you test four different hooks a month and see which works without burning budget. It is the rhythm of D3lab's Basic Plan, $770,000 COP per month with a carousel, a post and the shooting day included.

The signal to move up: when two of the month's four reels consistently generate messages or saves, you know what to do more often.

Eight reels: the rhythm stage

Two reels a week is where most businesses that sell through social media find balance. There is room for one educational reel and one product or process reel each week, and the volume is enough for format testing to produce data. It is the Intermediate Plan, $1,505,000 COP per month with three carousels and a post.

The trap here is repetition. Eight reels in the same format get tiring. That is why we define pillars: two or three topics that alternate and that the audience recognizes.

Twelve reels: the competition stage

Three reels a week are only justified in categories where visibility is the battle: restaurants, fashion, beauty, entertainment, or personal brands that live off their audience. And they only work if someone is watching the data weekly to cut what underperforms. The Pro Plan, $1,980,000 COP, applies a volume rate because twelve reels are shot in two sessions and the cost per piece drops.

If nobody will read the data, do not buy twelve. Buy eight and put the difference into ads for the one that performed best.

When posting more is waste

Three clear signals. First: reach per reel drops as quantity rises, meaning the platform is distributing each piece less. Second: reels start looking alike because there is no time to think each one through. Third: the person on camera no longer wants to shoot.

Any of the three means the problem is not quantity but system. And system is fixed with strategy, not with more pieces.

How to pick your number

Start with the time question: how many hours a month can you dedicate to shooting? If the answer is one morning, that is four or eight reels shot in one session. If two mornings, you can reach twelve.

Then the reading question: who will look at what worked? If it is you with ten minutes a week, four or eight. If someone is dedicated, twelve.

Then build the exact combination in the quote builder. The right number is the one you will sustain in March, not the one that excites you in January.

Frequently asked questions

Is it better to post every day? No, unless you have a full-time content team. Daily posting with uneven quality performs worse than twice a week with judgment.

Do carousels count as reels? No, but they complement them. A carousel gets saved more; a reel gets shared more. That is why plans combine both.

Can I upgrade mid-month? Yes. Plans are monthly and adjust at the start of each cycle.
